FLOWER GARDEN RESTORATION*
* Past work by M. Chris Alonso, RLA
“The Mount,” located in the Berkshire Mountains, western Massachusetts was home to Edith Wharton, Pulitzer Prize-winning American novelist. The restoration of the gardens (for which some photographs, but no plans remain) created a broad understanding, not only of prevalent design sensibilities at the turn-of-the-century, but also Wharton’s personal design intent and the character of the gardens she aspired to create. The restored Mount is a museum unto itself, offering visitors an intimate insight into a particular era—a work of art in which the client and creator are one.
